Our model of primary care is patient-centered and fully comprehensive, encompassing a full range of services delivered in a skilled and culturally sensitive team model, stressing prevention and wellness in both mind and body.
Callen-Lorde provides an affirming environment where patients can receive hormone therapy as well as engage in an ongoing relationship with a primary care provider and/or a mental health provider to address the full spectrum of health and wellness needs.
Callen-Lorde also provides Care Coordination tailored for patients that need additional support. Our Care Coordinators offer information, assistance and referrals regarding benefits and entitlements, including insurance, housing, and referrals to other supportive services.
The Women’s Health Program at Callen-Lorde offers empowering, non-judgmental, body-positive healthcare in an open and welcoming environment. Our services are provided in a safe and supportive space to all lesbian, bisexual, queer, straight women/femmes and trans/non-binary folks – regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In addition to our safe and supportive primary, GYN and mental health programs, Callen-Lorde also provides Care Coordination services for people who may need assistance in obtaining care outside of Callen-Lorde, including information and referrals regarding benefits and entitlements, including insurance and referrals to other supportive services. All services are provided regardless of ability to pay.
HEALTH OUTREACH TO TEENS (HOTT)
Offered only at our Chelsea location and and mobile sites.
Welcoming, non-judgmental, confidential program designed specifically to meet the medical and mental health needs of LGBTQ adolescents and young adults ages 13-24, including homeless and unstably housed youth. All services are offered both at a youth-only medical suite at Callen-Lorde, and on HOTT’s Mobile Medical Unit which travels to areas throughout New York City.
Short and long-term mental health services and counseling in conjunction with primary care to support emotional and physical well-being. All services are culturally sensitive and sex positive, consistent with risk reduction principles and promote patient self-determination. Our services include short and long-term individual and group psychotherapy, psychiatric assessment, psychotropic medication management, crisis intervention, substance abuse assessment and stabilization services.
Please note, we are only able to provide behavioral health services to patients engaged in primary care at Callen-Lorde and who are uninsured, or have Medicaid, Medicare, or ADAP (we do not accept private/commercial insurances for Behavioral Health at this time). Behavioral health is currently on a very long waiting list for services.
For patients receiving medical care at Callen-Lorde, our Care Coordination department offers assistance with obtaining benefits and entitlements, HASA, ADAP, insurance navigation, gender marker changes, surgery coordination and escorts to outside health care services. We can also provide referrals for housing, financial assistance, intimate partner violence, legal assistance and other public and private resources.
CASE MANAGEMENT/CARE COORDINATION
For patients receiving medical care at Callen-Lorde, our Care Coordination department offers assistance with obtaining benefits and entitlements, HASA, ADAP, insurance navigation, gender marker changes, surgery coordination and escorts to outside health care services. We can also provide referrals for housing, financial assistance, intimate partner violence, legal assistance and other public and private resources. Supportive and Intensive Case Management services for all patients needing additional assistance navigating housing, health and other benefits.
Our team of LGBTQ+ affirming navigators are available to screen interested applicants for free and low-cost insurance eligibility, helping to answer questions and complete applications for clients. This service is provided free of charge.
Sex-positive counseling, testing, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and individual counseling, focused on the specific needs of the LGBTQ communities. The Sexual Health Clinic aims to assist patients stay safe and healthy while maintaining a satisfying sex life.

Comprehensive dental and oral healthcare including preventive, restorative, rehabilitative, cosmetic, endodontic, periodontal and emergency services, as well as a dental hygiene program.
By filling your prescriptions at a Callen-Lorde pharmacy, you help us provide care to the most vulnerable members of our communities, regardless of ability to pay. Our convenient onsite pharmacies offer free delivery and discounted medications for qualifying patients!
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION
Offering high-impact education and outreach programming to community agencies and organizations to help advance understanding of LGBTQ health and wellness.
In addition to directly providing care, Callen-Lorde impacts the health and wellness of LGBTQ people and people living with HIV/AIDS around the globe through cutting edge research. Our researchers lead studies and publications on a variety of topics ranging from advances in HIV prevention to our informed consent protocols for hormone therapy, influencing global healthcare leaders and policymakers.
HOSPITALIZATION: For Callen-Lorde patients that need to be hospitalized, we will work with affiliated hospitals to provide care for our patients for inpatient and outpatient services. We can also provide escorts if needed.
ON-CALL PROVIDERS: Callen-Lorde Providers are available outside of clinical hours. All services offered at all locations unless otherwise noted. We accept a range of payment and insurance options including a sliding scaled for the uninsured.
