EASI-SC Study - Callen-Lorde

EASI-SC Study

Expanded Access to STI Screening through Self-Collection (EASI-SC) is a research study that is looking at self-collected swabs and fi nger-stick blood tests to see if they are as good as the ones a medical provider does in the office. We try to simulate an “at-home” environment in the office so the new tests can be used for home-collection.

What do I have to do?

The study involves getting an extra set of swabs at oral, anal and vaginal sites (if you’ve got it, swab it!) that you collect and one set that a nurse collects privately in an exam room. For that, you can get $40!

Then, if you want to, you can do a finger-stick test where you prick your finger and put drops of blood on a paper card for an extra $10.

Who can do this study?

Anyone age 18-65 who have had sex with at least two people in the last three months is eligible for the study. The study takes place on Saturday clinic days at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in Chelsea. The whole process should take 45 minutes total.

Who is doing this study?

The student PI for the study is Zil Goldstein (zgoldstein80@sphmail.cuny.edu) and the faculty advisor is Christian Grov (christian.grov@sph.cuny.edu).

How do I participate?

Tell the person who calls you back to the room that you are interested in the study!
