American Academy of Pediatrics Reaffirms Support for Gender-Affirming Care

NEW YORK (August 7, 2023) — Today Callen-Lorde released the following statement from Uri Belkind, MD, Associate Director of Medicine for Adolescent Medicine in support of the American Academy of Pediatrics reaffirming its support for gender-affirming medical care for transgender children.

“It is my hope the recent unanimous decision from the Board of Directors of the American Academy Pediatrics reaffirming the Academy’s support of gender-affirming care is heard by legislators and courts as the booming voices of the tens of thousands of pediatricians that the academy represents who support and endorse this type of care as not only safe, but life-saving.  It is high time that the expertise of medical professionals who have dedicated their careers to caring for transgender and non-binary children and studying how to improve their well-being take precedence over unqualified opinions.” Dr. Uri Belkind
