Announcing Callen-Lorde Brooklyn
Callen-Lorde Community Health Center Readies for Expansion into Brooklyn in 2019
Agency Signs 20-Year Lease for Space at 40 Flatbush Extension in Downtown Brooklyn to Meet the Healthcare Needs of Even More LGBTQ New Yorkers
To address the growing healthcare needs of NYC’s LGBTQ communities and people living with HIV/AIDS, Callen-Lorde is excited to announce our fourth clinical site – Callen-Lorde Brooklyn – coming in 2019! Located at 40 Flatbush Extension in Downtown Brooklyn, the space will allow us to nearly double our capacity with an additional 25,000 square feet of space to provide critically needed healthcare services to LGBTQ New Yorkers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the uninsured, regardless of ability to pay.
“We are thrilled to be moving forward with this expansion to increase access to affirming, culturally-competent health care services targeted to LGBTQ and underserved communities in Brooklyn,” said Wendy Stark, Callen-Lorde’s executive director. “Over the last three years we have increased from one to three clinical sites, and yet there is still incredible unmet need. We look forward to strengthening our partnerships with other service providers, organizations, and community groups in the borough as we prepare for a 2019 opening.”
“Our Brooklyn expansion represents the Board’s ongoing commitment to our core mission of providing sensitive, quality healthcare and related services targeted to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities — in all their diversity — regardless of ability to pay ,” said Callen-Lorde Board Chair Laura A. Jacobs. “During a time when threats to health care access are ever-present, we feel a deep commitment to bring expanded services to New Yorkers who need them most.”
Callen-Lorde Brooklyn will provide health services targeted to LGBTQ communities and other vulnerable populations in New York and beyond. We’ll continue to share news and updates on construction in the coming months!
