A look back at Callen-Lorde celebrating Trans Day of Remembrance
Every year on Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) we pause to reflect on the lives of transgender individuals lost to anti-trans violence. This day reminds us of the urgency in advocating for trans safety and justice, and at Callen-Lorde, we remain stern in our commitment to supporting the trans community. TDOR is not only a day of mourning but also a call to action, emphasizing the resilience and strength of transgender individuals across the globe.
This year, members of the Callen-Lorde communications team attended the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil at the CUNY Graduate School. The vigil was a solemn and heartfelt gathering, filled with moments of silence, powerful speeches, and reflections from panelists with lived experience. It served as a reminder of the importance of showing up for our community and honoring the lives that have been tragically cut short. Being part of this vigil was a testament to our ongoing solidarity and support for the trans community.
On our social media platforms, we created digital signage to honor the lives lost to anti-trans violence and to encourage our audience to continue the fight for justice and safety for trans people everywhere. These posts carried messages of remembrance, resilience, and resistance, reaching out to thousands of our followers.
We also used this moment to highlight the resources we offer, including our comprehensive trans health services and TransAtlas—a vital guide for navigating trans-related healthcare and advocacy. These tools are designed to empower the trans community and ensure they have access to the care and information they need.
As we look to the future, Callen-Lorde is actively compiling a list of tips and how-tos to help our trans community navigate healthcare. This resource aims to provide practical support and equip individuals with tools to access essential services. It’s important now, more than ever, to stand with and for the trans community, ensuring they are seen, heard, and supported.
As TDOR reminds us of the work still to be done, we at Callen-Lorde remain unwavering in our commitment to advocacy, safety, and equity for trans individuals. This work extends beyond a single day, encompassing everything from providing inclusive healthcare to challenging systemic inequalities.
We encourage everyone in our community to reflect on how they can contribute to this ongoing fight, whether by amplifying trans voices, advocating for policy changes, or creating spaces where trans individuals feel safe and valued. Together, we can continue to make a difference.
