Meet the 2022 Community Health Award honorees! The Community Health Awards is Callen-Lorde’s annual gala held in support of our mission. This year’s theme is Deeply Rooted, Holding Strong, and it is in that spirit that we will honor the leaders, trailblazers, and visionaries in LGBTQ+ health and wellness whose shoulders we stand on, while celebrating Callen-Lorde’s unwavering role in our communities. Past honorees include Roxane Gay, Satchel Lee, Admiral Rachel L. Levine, MD, Raquel Willis, Papi Juice, Cecilia Gentili, Dr. Oni Blackstock, Jenna Wortham, Chase Strangio, Chris Mosier, Cynthia Nixon, Tony Kushner, The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, and Keith Boykin.

Brad Baumoel
Managing Director, Global Head of LGBT+ Affairs, JPMorgan Chase

Brad Baumoel

Brad Baumoel is Managing Director and Global Head of LGBT+ Affairs at JPMorgan Chase. At JPMorgan Chase, Brad has led globally diverse teams and driven many aspects of the firms LGBT+ agenda for the past 25 years. In 2021, he established the Office of LGBT+ Affairs – a first of its kind team driving a global strategy to advance equity and inclusion for LGBT+ employees, customers, and communities. Externally, Brad and his team are focused on closing gaps and fostering the well-being of the LGBT+ community in partnership with numerous organizations like Callen-Lorde, SAGE, GLSEN and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, to name just a few. 

LaLa B. Holston-Zannell
Long-time activist and champion for trans communities

LaLa B. Holston-Zannell

LaLa B. Holston-Zannell is an advocate, organizer, and artist working towards liberation for transgender and nonbinary communities, with a focus on trans women of color and trans sex workers. LaLa has years of experience working in advocacy spaces, such as the New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) where she served as the Lead Organizer doing advocacy, outreach, and networking on behalf of LGBTQ New Yorkers who have experienced violence. She has published works in USA Today, NBC News, Out Magazine, Ebony Magazine, and many other publications.  

Dr. Darien Sutton-Ramsey
ER Physician, ABC News Medical Contributor

Dr. Darien Sutton-Ramsay

Dr. Darien Sutton-Ramsey is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and medical contributor for ABC News. A graduate of NYU School of Medicine and NYU Stern School of Business, Dr. Darien has special interests in public health education as well as the intersection of racial inequities and healthcare disparities.  

Dr. Daniel Bowers
HIV Specialist, Retired Callen-Lorde Medical Provider

Dr. Daniel Bowers

Dr. Daniel Bowers is a retired Callen-Lorde provider, HIV specialist, and a nationally recognized thought-leader in HIV care. Dr. Bowers is a graduate of Stanford University and University of Iowa College of Medicine. He joined a family practice group and taught family medicine at The University of Minnesota Medical School. It was there in 1981 that Dr. Bowers saw some of the first cases of gay men with swollen lymph nodes. He quickly built a collaboration of other physicians in the Twin Cities to share information about HIV and soon became a public speaker to medical groups, legal conferences, and the news media. In 2011, Dr. Bowers joined Callen-Lorde where he developed a large and varied panel of patients which blended his years in family medicine and HIV care.
