Callen-Lorde Bronx Opens for Business!
New Facility Will Serve Ever-Expanding Health Care Needs of New York City’s LGBTQ Communities;
Apicha Community Health Center to Partner with Callen-Lorde on Health Care Referrals in Manhattan
Callen-Lorde is proud to announce the opening of our newest facility, Callen-Lorde Bronx. Callen-Lorde Bronx provides primary care, HIV care, transgender care and hormone therapy, lesbian and bisexual women’s health care, young adult care, sexual health care, and short-term mental health services. Patients also have access to a convenient on-site pharmacy. The opening of Callen-Lorde Bronx is featured in Gay City News.
“This is truly a historic moment for Callen-Lorde,” said Executive Director Wendy Stark. “The opening of Callen-Lorde Bronx is a huge milestone for the agency as it works to meet the health care needs of even more LGBTQ people from communities throughout New York City, particularly those who are underserved and face significant barriers to care. We are open for business and ready to welcome new patients for full-service primary care.”
The opening of Callen-Lorde also brings the beginning of a new partnership between Callen-Lorde and Apicha Community Health Center, designed to better meet the needs LGBTQ communities in Manhattan. Apicha is a similar LGBTQ-focused health center in Manhattan, that works closely with Callen-Lorde and uses similar protocols in providing affirming and competent LGBTQ care.
Under the arrangement, new patients seeking care at Callen-Lorde’s Chelsea locations have the option of going to Callen-Lorde Bronx or receiving a referral to Apicha, as we work to build more capacity. Callen-Lorde serves 17,000 patients in Chelsea. Callen-Lorde’s referral system with Apicha will help ensure that LGBTQ-competent care is available for new patients in Manhattan who choose not to seek care at Callen-Lorde Bronx.
“Through the years Apicha Community Health Center has followed in Callen-Lorde’s footsteps as we expanded our services. We deeply appreciate their constant and generous support,” said Therese R. Rodriguez, Apicha Community Health Center’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud that we are now raising our relationship to a partnership–together providing the culturally competent health care and support services our community needs. For both of us, it has always been about community.”
