Murray Hill will emcee the event and the awards will be presented to Dominique Jackson, Billy Bean, and WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Champions the New York Liberty.

The 23rd annual Callen-Lorde Community Health Award recipients are award winning stars in the television and sports industry and will be honored at the organization’s gala on Thursday, November 2 at 6:00 pm. This will be CEO Patrick McGovern’s first gala since starting at Callen-Lorde in August. Early bird tickets are available for one week only

Under the banner of Empowering Health, Enriching Lives, the Community Health Awards will honor the leaders, trailblazers, and visionaries in LGBTQ+ health and wellness whose shoulders we stand on while celebrating Callen-Lorde’s critical role in our communities. Get ready for an electrifying evening nothing short of spectacular! As the sun sets over the Hudson River, the stage will come alive with remarks by our new CEO Patrick McGovern, who will share inspiring insights that set the tone for Callen-Lorde’s work ahead. But that’s not all–brace yourself for an array of surprises as esteemed honorees take the spotlight, accompanied by special guests and captivating performances that will leave you mesmerized.

Billy Bean serves at MLB as Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. As a senior advisor to Commissioner Manfred, his role focuses on DE&I, player education, and social justice initiatives. He played in the Major Leagues from 1987-1995. Bean broke into the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers, and tied a major-league record with four hits in his first game. He went on to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. Billy is one of only two out current or former MLB players.

Dominique Jackson is a model, actress, and author who is best known for her performance as the lead role ELEKTRA in POSE for FX and recently starred as BLOODY MARY in the weekly anthology spin-off series AMERICAN HORROR STORIES. Dominique can also be seen in an arc on AMERICAN GODS on Starz, the feature film CHICK FIGHT opposite Malin Akerman, Bella Thorne, and Fortune Feimster, and as a guest host on LEGENDARY for HBO MAX where Dominique’s appearance went viral. Dominique also released her autobiography THE TRANSEXUAL FROM TOBAGO and was seen on the reality TV model/fashion show STRUT for Oxygen.

The evening will be emceed by NYC legend, comedian, TV host, MC and international entertainer Murray Hill,  a relentless shtick slinger, larger-than-life personality, and freewheeling ad-libber. He plays Fred Rococo in Bridget Everett’s Somebody Somewhere (HBO). The show was awarded many “Best of 2022 & 2023” Awards, including “Best New TV Series” from AFI and was just renewed for a third season. He hosts the new competition show Drag Me To Dinner (Hulu). He can be seen on Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth and Welcome to Flatch (FOX) and upcoming in Paul Feig’s movie Grand Death Lotto (Amazon Studios) starring John Cena and Awkwafina.

The New York Liberty is NYC’s home WNBA team. As winners of WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, the New York Liberty raised $35,000 to support Callen-Lorde’s work. The New York Liberty believe that service is at the heart of community building. Their social responsibility platform rests upon four main tenets – growing youth basketball through organized clinics and camps; embracing young girls through various mentorship, empowerment and career development initiatives; championing unity and advocating for underserved populations; and promoting Pride alongside the LGBTQ+ community.
