TRANS OUT LOUD: ACCESSING TRANS HEALTH CARE IN NEW YORK STATE

November 12, 2015 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

TOL2015V.2

Following the success of the Trans Out Loud (TOL) events held annually since 2010, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center’s TGNC CAB Subcommittee is excited to host Trans Out Loud 2015.  Past TOL events have featured discussions about trans identities, experiences in accessing health care and mental health services, dating and disclosure, as well as understanding how the Affordable Care Act affects TGNC communities.

This year we will discuss the recent changes to NYS Medicaid and NYS private insurance options featuring a professional panel to discuss the legal, medical, mental health and care coordination needed to access surgery and other trans-related health care. This is a FREE event open to all!

FEATURED PANELISTS:

D’hana Perry – Transgender Case Manager, Callen-Lorde
Will cover the care coordination aspect of preparing for surgery: gathering documents, pre & post-surgical planning etc.

Belkys Garcia – Staff Attorney, The Legal Aid Society
Will discuss the legal aspect of Medicaid/private insurances: what’s changed, the current challenges for people trying to access care and more.

Ronica Mukerjee – Medical Provider, Callen-Lorde
Will discuss the medical requirements: what’s necessary for documentation for surgeons and insurance companies, and that pesky “gray area” of medical eligibilty.

SCHEDULE AN INSURANCE ENROLLMENT SESSION:

Stephany Hernandez
Manager of Facilitated Enrollment, Callen-Lorde
Will be on hand to schedule appointments and answer questions about Medicaid and ACA enrollment.

GET INFO EFFECTING TRANS YOUTH:

Health Outreach To Teens (HOTT) will be on hand with materials and information effecting trans youth.
