Meeting the Needs of LGBT Patients

Participants will be guided through some of the specific health problems faced by the LGBT communities. The program will increase participants’ cultural competency in working these populations.

Taking an LGBT Sensitive Sexual Health History

Taking a sensitive sexual history can facilitate openness in the provider-patient relationship, allowing patients to ask questions from a reliable source, and providers to better understand their patients. This workshop will discuss sensitivity strategies for administering many components of a sexual history, considering important questions, potential barriers and ways to create a safe and empowering space for LGBT people.

A Tailored Team Approach to Prevention, Screening, and Treatment for MSM

This workshop is designed to help participants learn from Callen-Lorde’s successes and challenges in our 6 years providing a Sexual Health Clinic for men who have sex with men (MSM). Sharing this model is incredibly important to providing essential prevention and outreach services to this underserved, at risk population.

Addressing Health Priorities for Women Who Partner with Women

This workshop will address critical health topics for women who partner with women including breast cancer, gynecological health, substance and tobacco use, mental health, domestic violence, heart health, fitness and osteoporosis. Strategies will be provided for patients seeking to establish care, and for providers desiring to offer more sensitive, equitable services for this population.

Anal Health and HPV for MSM

Learn from Callen-Lorde’s experience in offering state-of-the-art screening and prevention services for anal cancer. Topics include obtaining adequate and sensitive sexual health history, appropriate screening for human papillomavirus (HPV) conditions, obtaining anal pap smear screening and detection and treatment of precancerous states due to HPV.
